You need to be ready for a major emergency. We've compiled some information to assist you in getting ready. Here are the links:
Get Prepared - A basic list of things you will need and links for ways to get ready for a disaster.
Readiness Links - For those who want to do more in-depth research on preparedness.
Avian Flu - A link to federal and local preparedness information.
NorthSound 1380 (KRKO) is the Emergency Alert System (EAS) station for Snohomish County. Tune your radio to 1380 AM for localized alert information during major storms, disasters and other emergencies. We have backup systems in place to make sure we can remain on the air if problems arise.
We're actively seeking ham radio operators and diesel engine mechanics (hopefully in the Everett area) to be a part of our readiness team if disaster strikes. If you'd like to get involved with us, click here to send us an email.
Railroad car spills of dangerous chemicals, earthquakes, and floods are common potential sources of disaster. On Whidbey Island, a tsunami, seche, earthquake, or other natural event could precipitate disaster. In Skagit County, pyroclastic flows from a volcanic eruption of Glacier Peak, earthquake, or severe ice storm could contribute to a disaster. Some of these scenarios seem remote, but so did potential devastation caused by hurricane Katrina in 2005. The potential turned into reality. Unlike the Gulf States, though, our area likely won't have any warning at all. You can't predict an earthquake. We're compiling information on disaster preparedness. All we ask, is that you take some time to be ready if the unthinkable happens.
